He married Mary Elizabeth Elden Hanby, and had children Bruce Elden Hanby, Heather Alexandra Hanby, John Noel Hanby, and Nancy Jean Hanby. Alfred Hanby died at age 85 years old on August 1, 1958 in Steiglitz, Golden Plains Shire County.
