He had siblings Samuel Southgate, Mary Anne Southgate, and Elizabeth (Southgate) Aghan. He married Hanorah Murphy Southgate, and had children Thomas Giddon Southgate and Thelma Florence Southgate Huggins. Alfred Southgate died at age 79 years old on November 21, 1937 in Portland, Lithgow City Council County, NSW.
