Alfred Manroe Coleman 1872 - 1957

Alfred Manroe Coleman of Morwell, Latrobe City County, VIC Australia was born in 1872 in Eganstown, Hepburn Shire County to Seymour Andrew Coleman and Elizabeth Lavinia Small Coleman. He had siblings Eva Lavinia (Coleman) Williams, Emma Elizabeth Coleman, John Clinton Coleman, Arthur Andrew Coleman, James Egbert Coleman, Frank Wesley Coleman, and William Walter Seymour Coleman. He married Flora Chamberlain Coleman in 1898, and had children Violet Belle Coleman, Arthur John Coleman, Annie May Coleman, Flora Lavinia Coleman, Andrew Alfred Coleman, and Neil Malcolm Coleman. Alfred Coleman died at age 85 years old in 1957 in Morwell, Latrobe City County.

In 1872, in the year that Alfred Manroe Coleman was born, on December 4th, the empty American ship Mary Celeste was found in the Atlantic Ocean. Still seaworthy, under partial sail, and with one lifeboat missing, what happened on her is still a mystery. Her cargo and provisions were intact and she was used as a cargo vessel for another 12 years but the people onboard were never seen again

In 1903, at the age of 31 years old, Alfred was alive when the silent film, The Great Train Robbery opened. Although it was filmed in Milltown, New Jersey, it was a Western. Twelve minutes long, the film used a lot of innovative techniques - some scenes were hand colored and composite editing, on-location shooting, and frequent camera movement were used. Its budget was $150 (about $4000 currently) and was the most popular film until 1915 when Birth of a Nation was released.
