Alice Matilda (Spilsbury) Bermingham of Terang, VIC Australia was born in 1888 in Terang to Lewis Spilsbury and Emily Beechey Spilsbury. She had siblings Edith Emily Spilsbury, Hannah Eliza (Spilsbury) Hinkley, Lettie Maria Spilsbury, Lewis Richard Spilsbury, William John Spilsbury, Sarah Ann (Spilsbury) Lewis, Amy Maude (Spilsbury) Henriksen, and George Albert Spilsbury. She married Patrick Joseph Bermingham, and had children Annie Ellen May Bermingham, Kathleen Alice Bermingham, Michael Daniel Lewis Bermingham, and Eileen Emily Bermingham. Alice Bermingham died at age 70 years old on November 1, 1959 in Terang.

In 1888, in the year that Alice Matilda (Spilsbury) Bermingham was born, on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.
