Alice Violet (Ellis) Groves of South Yarra Australia was born in 1906 in South Yarra, VIC to Alice Rose (Saunders) Ellis and John McDonald Ellis. She had siblings Thomas William Ellis, John Hayman Thomas Ellis, and Allan McDonald Ellis. She married Frederick John Groves, and had a child Keith McDonald Groves. Alice Groves died at age 85 years old on December 11, 1992, and was buried on December 15, 1992 at Springvale Botanical Cemetery Princes Hwy, in Springvale.

She, along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, founded the National American Woman Suffrage Association which later became the League of Women Voters. She died at the age of 86 of heart failure and pneumonia in her home in New York.
