In February of 1960, he married Helen Margaret Wade in Volusia, Florida, USA. Together the couple had a son together.

    Mr. Alvin Lemacks of Newnan died May 16, 2005. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Lemacks, Newnan; daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Chris Mason, Ellenwood; Cheryl and Dean Clarke, Saudi Daisy, TN; Leisa Gould, Savannah; Robin and Butch Smith, Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Candi Lemacks, Hampton; Tim and Amy Lemacks, Saudi Daisy, TN; Mitchell and Melissa Lemacks, Newnan; sisters, Inez and Howard Ramsey, Cedartown; Geraldine and Fred Packer, Cedartown; brother, Clarence and Glenda Lemacks, Cedartown; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; best friends, Tim and Kay Mitchum, Newnan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 1 o'clock at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Minister Joseph Garmon officiating. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to The ALS Association of GA, Inc., 1955 Cliff Valley Way, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329, www.ALSaga.org. Those wishing may send an on-line condolence at www.parrottfuneralhome.com. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, 770-964-4800.

In 1938, in the year that Alvin Lemacks was born, on October 30th, a Sunday, The Mercury Theatre on the Air broadcast Orson Welles' special Halloween show The War of the World's. A clever take on H.G. Wells' novel, the show began with simulated "breaking news" of an invasion by Martians. Because of the realistic nature of the "news," there was a public outcry the next day, calling for regulation by the FCC. Although the current story is that many were fooled and panicked, in reality very few people were fooled. But the show made Orson Welles' career.

In 1948, when he was only 10 years old, on January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a member of a Hindu nationalist party who thought that Gandhi was too accommodating to Muslims. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. He died immediately. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949.
