Andrew Raymond Slobom of Richmond Australia was born in 1908 in Essendon to Andrew Henry Slobom and Ellen (Sterling) Slobom. He had siblings Elaine Sara Slobom, Jeffrey Richard Slobom, Graham Sterling Slobom, and Molly Sterling Slobom. Andrew Slobom married Eresley Hamilton Smith in 1937, and died at age 70 years old in 1978 in Richmond.

In 1908, in the year that Andrew Raymond Slobom was born, a mysterious Siberian explosion leveled over 770 square miles of forest. There were no human casualties. Explanations of the explosion have included a comet, meteorite, natural atomic explosion, or a crashed UFO. Although it is called an impact event - the largest one in recorded earth history - there is no crater and it is widely thought that the explosion was caused by a meteor exploding 3 to 6 miles above the earth.
