Arthur Harold Hobday was born in October 1914 in Brunswick, Merri-Bek City County, VIC Australia. He was married to Thelma Jean (Pollock) Hobday on March 23, 1946 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, in Footscray, Maribyrnong City County, Victoria, and they were together until death separated them. He had children Pamela Joy (Hobday) Johansson and Ian Hobday. Arthur Hobday died at age 77 years old on December 27, 1991.

In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.
