Arthur Thomas Lonsdale 1888 - 1974

Arthur Thomas Lonsdale of Blackburn, Whitehorse City County, VIC Australia was born in 1888 in Toolleen to Thomas Charles Lonsdale and Sarah Elizabeth (Knight) Lonsdale. He had siblings Ethel May (Lonsdale) Lovegrove, Phillip Tregartha Lonsdale, Mabel Ellen Lonsdale, Sarah Elizabeth Lonsdale, Violet Cecilia Lonsdale, James Albert Ernest Lonsdale, and Albert George Lonsdale. He married Sarah Malone in 1912, and had a child Arthur James Allan Lonsdale. Arthur Lonsdale died at age 86 years old in 1974 in Blackburn.

In 1888, in the year that Arthur Thomas Lonsdale was born, on August 7th, the body of a prostitute was found in the Whitechapel section of London. Martha Tabram had been stabbed 39 times - a possible but not confirmed victim of Jack the Ripper. On August 31st, the body of Mary Ann Nichols was found - stabbed and mutilated. On September 8th, the body of Annie Chapman was found - throat slit and disemboweled. On September 30th, Elizabeth Stride, also a prostitute in Whitechapel, was found dead from a slit throat. Within an hour, another body was discovered - Catherine Eddowes'. She was far more savagely murdered and it is thought that the Ripper had more time with her. Then, on November 9th, the body of prostitute Mary Jane Kelly was found in a boarding room in Whitechapel. Considered to be the probable fifth, and last, of Jack the Ripper's victims, Kelly's was the most savage of his murders.

In 1902, he was merely 14 years old when the Aswan Low Dam (the old Aswan Dam) began construction in Egypt in 1899 and was completed in 1902 - making it the largest masonry dam in the world at the time. The dam was built on the Nile River in order to conserve water and regulate flooding, allowing for population increase along the Nile.
