Arvilla (Applegate) Clayton of Toms River, Ocean County, NJ was born on April 30, 1889 to William Applegate and Georgianna (Lemming) Applegate. She had siblings Myrtle Applegate, Harold Applegate, and Lavonia Applegate. She married Ernest Voit Clayton, and had children Evelyn Inez Clayton and Eunice Muriel Clayton. Arvilla Clayton died at age 84 years old in July 1973.

She was the most authentic, loving person I have ever known. She took in countless children of relatives, including me, and gave them a stable, loving home. She never complained no matter how difficult life was. I miss her beyond belief.
