Man free after turning self in
FORT WAYNE (AP) - A man wanted by Fort Wayne authorities for the March death of a 3-year-old child is free on $10,000 cash bond after tuning himself in to police. Eric Manalis, 21, turned himself in to police at the City-County Lockup on Friday and was charged with aggravated battery in the death of Austin R. Golliver. An initial court date was not scheduled.
Investigators believe the boy was alone with Manalis in his apartment just before he died in March. Manalis had told police that he and Austin were playing when a ball inside the apartment when it hit Austin in the arm, scaring him and causing him to fall to the floor. A report from the Allen County Coroner's office determined that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head. The death was ruled a homicide.
