Bertha Neal had siblings John Alfred Pettie, William Oliver Pettie, and Margaret Elinor Pettie. Bertha's partner was DeGerald Leon Reynolds and they later separated. They had children Virginia B. Reynolds and Bertha Claudine Reynolds. She married William Neal, and they had children Carol Claudine Pettie, William Starks Neal, and John Alfred Neal.
