GROVE, Betty Ann, recording artist and Broadway and television performer, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2015, in Richmond, Va. Born in Boston in 1928, she made her first recording at the New York World's Fair of 1939, followed by a stint on the 1949 NBC Broadway Revue, which led to appearances as a top-billed vocalist on Stop the Music with Bert Parks, The Big Payoff, The Red Buttons Show and Ed Sullivan's The Toast of the Town. In 1953, she was featured on the cover of TV Digest and shortly thereafter, appeared on the cover of LOOK magazine as one of "America's Most Televised Women." Her recordings were popular, with "Waltzing Down the Aisle" at the top of the charts. She was indeed America's sweetheart and the toast of the town! As a Broadway actress, she got her big break when Cole Porter chose her to take over the lead role of Bianca in the Broadway production of Kiss Me Kate. Known in the business as a "triple threat," she later put her singing, acting and tap dancing skills to work creating the role of Nellie Cohan in the original Broadway production of George M! opposite Joel Grey and Bernadette Peters. She also appeared on Broadway in I Remember Mama, with Liv Ullmann and On Your Toes, directed by legendary director, George Abbott, Throughout the years, she traveled the country appearing in innumerable summer stock and regional theatre productions. When she retired, along with her husband, the late Roger Hunting, they moved from New York City to Richmond, where she continued to charm audiences, immersing herself in Richmond's rich theatrical tradition. All who knew her will miss her charm, her talent, her voice, her wit - and her fabulous tap dancing "time step!" Date and location of a celebration of her life will be announced separately.

BETTY ANN GROVE OBITUARY 9/9/1929 - 11/13/2015 Betty Ann Grove (Everett Collection) Betty Ann Grove, an actress, singer and dancer, died Nov. 13, according to multiple news sources. She was 86. The cause of death was not announced. Grove replaced Lisa Kirk as Bianca on Broadway in "Kiss Me, Kate." She later appeared in the musicals "I Remember Mama," "George M!" and a 1980s revival of "On Your Toes." Grove, who was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, had a powerful singing voice. She recorded songs in the 1950s including "Waltzing Down the Aisle." The pop singer was a frequent guest on Jack Paar's "Tonight Show" as well as "Stop the Music," "The Bert Parks Show," "Summer Holiday," "The Arthur Murray Party" and "Ozark Jubilee." In 1953, she was featured on the cover of Look magazine as one of "America's Most Televised Women." In a 1952 magazine article, Parks described Grove's frenetic pace during five months in 1950 when she performed in both "Stop the Music" on television and "Kiss Me, Kate" on Broadway: "At 7:30 every Thursday night, she would rush into a dressing room at ABC's Ritz Theatre on West 48th Street, change into her TV costume, tear onstage for her numbers, change again into her first act 'Kiss Me Kate' togs, make a beeline for the Shubert Theatre on West 44th Street, arriving just in time for her onstage cue," Parks remembered. "All this following a full day of rehearsing. "But audiences never had a hint of her exhausting routine, and night after night her 'True to You in My Fashion' and 'Why Can't You Behave' were show stoppers." She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hunting.

Always lovable, friendly, kind and generous. I showed her my musical "Nellie Bly" and she sat down and read the whole musical, and played every song, and studied the SONG BOOK [100 pages!] Then she said, "I'd love to be the star of your show as Mama!"
