Account of killing
A Kansas City man accused of killing his girlfriend over the weekend said he slept next to her all night before realizing she was dead, according to court records.
Quintin A Hammons, 41, surrendered to police Sunday morning. Authorities allege he strangled Bridget L. McNealey, 42.
Hammons was charged Sunday in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder. He was in jail Monday. Bond was set at $250,000.
Court records gave this account:
Hammons and McNealey argued about 1opm Saturday at the home they shared in the 2800 block of Raytown Road over a proposed crack cocaine purchase. McNealey ran into the bedroom and Hammons followed. The two fought until she stopped resisting. He rolled over and fell asleep. He later told police he did not know she was dead.
Hammons walked into the East Patrol Division police station about 7:30am and surrendered to a clerk. - Christine Vendel
