When Brig General Joseph Lynch Martin Jr. was born on 18 September 1740, in Goochland, Virginia, British Colonial America, his father, Captain Joseph Lynch Martin Sr., was 38 and his mother, Susannah Page Chiles, was 39. He married Sarah Lucas in 1762, in Orange, Virginia, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Pendleton, Anderson, South Carolina, United States in 1800 and Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle, Virginia, United States in 1810. He registered for military service in 1740. In 1777, at the age of 37, his occupation is listed as appointed virginia's agent to the cherokee nation by governor patrick henry in Virginia, United States. He died on 18 December 1808, in Henry, Virginia, United States, at the age of 68, and was buried in Martin Cemetery, Axton, Henry, Virginia, United States.
