  • Obituary

    Wright moved to Young County with his parents when he was 12 years old. They settled on a farm about two miles east of Olney. Nora Atchley met her Caleb Wright as schoolmates in the old Olney school located just south of the present Olney Gin. They were married 15 August 1909 in the home of the bride's parents, with the bride's grandfather, Rev. W.L. Leatherwood officiating the service. The couple lived on the Campbell Ranch and in 1910 moved to Parker county. In 1911, they moved to Hillsboro and in 1913, they moved back to the Olney area. The couple owned / operated the Shamrock Hotel from 1913-1951 in Olney. Wright was a farmer and was associated with his father in the water well drilling business at Young and Archer counties. Later, he worked in the oil fields as this section began to be explored for oil. Children are: F.H. Wright, Mrs. Justine Willis, Mrs. Mildred Cockburn, Earl Wright, Mrs. Wanda Crosthwait, Mrs. Leah Graber, John Wright.

In 1922, he was 29 years old when on November 4th, British Egyptologists George Carnarvon and Howard Carter unearthed the first step leading to King Tutankhamen's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. By the end of the month they had unearthed the steps and broken through the door into the intact tomb. This was the only tomb that had remained unlooted that had been found (and is, to date). Filled with gold, jewels, and ancient everyday items, the find was priceless - in terms of money and history.
