    Caroline Ruth McSorley was born to Egbert and Callie (Kline) McSorley in the small town of Welcome Washington which was named after her 2nd Great Grandfather. Who were pioneers in Whatcom County Washington. She was the eldest of 4 children. She graduated from Bellingham high school. She married James Smith in 1948 in California and they had 9 children, they moved up and down the west coast following James' work of being a log truck driver.
