She had siblings William Neil Lawson, Margaret Ellen (Lawson) Mckenzie, Hugh Lawson, Mary Mina Lawson, Elizabeth Ann Lawson, John Lawson, Archibald Lawson, and Alexander Mcneil Lawson. Catherine Lawson died at age 89 years old on June 19, 1968 in Wonthaggi.

In 1878, in the year that Catherine Hannah Lawson was born, on September 12th, Cleopatra's Needle, built in Egypt in 1450 B.C. and transported to England, was erected in London. It had arrived in England on January 21st, having been towed by boat.

In 1898, by the time she was 20 years old, on February 15th, the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor. The reason for the explosion has never been found, but it killed 266 men. "Remember the Maine" became a rallying cry and precipitated the United States' declaration of war on Spain two months later - the beginning of the Spanish-American War. On December 10th, the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty gave the U.S. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam - for $20 million - and, temporarily, Cuba.
