Elizabeth Lawson died at age 27 years old in 1902 in Ballarat.

In 1875, in the year that Elizabeth Ann Lawson was born, on March 1st, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act. The Act prohibited racial discrimination in both public accommodations and jury duty. Opposed by the public, the "public accommodations" sections of the Act were overturned by the Supreme Court eight years later.

In 1886, by the time she was merely 11 years old, on January 5th, Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson's book the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was published.
