He married Mary Ann Brereton in 1881, and had children Florence May Brereton, Daisy Brereton, Sarah Ellen (Brereton) Morgan, Ethel Mary Brereton, Myrtle Evelyn Brereton, Lily Brereton, Edwin Charles Brereton, Leslie George Brereton, Bertha Grace Brereton, and Hugh Milvain Brereton. Charles Brereton died at age 60 years old on October 8, 1921 in Malmsbury.
