He had siblings Hilda Blanche Colwell, William Charles Colwell, Mary Emma Colwell, James Edward Colwell, Hazel Colwell, Lilian Colwell, Vera Colwell Mills, Julia Myra Colwell, and Elsie May Colwell. Charles Colwell married Edith May Sherer in 1931, and died at age 73 years old on September 2, 1975 in Glenroy.
