He married Helen Fae (Clark) Clifton on September 5, 1964 in Port Neches, Jefferson County, and had children Charles Martin Clifton III and Nancy Colleen (Clifton) Martin-Coats-Atkeson. Charles Clifton died at age 81 years old on August 27, 2017 in Plano, Collin County.
