Chastain Arthur Higgason 1854 - 1944

Chastain Arthur Higgason of Brookland, Henrico County, Virginia United States was born in August 1854. He was married to Pauline Thompson Hartz in 1877, and they were together until Pauline's death on December 5, 1926. He had children Roberta Estelle Higgason, Harvey Arthur Higgason, Angie May Higgason, Henry Winfree Higgason, John Wesley Higgason, Sr., and Woodie B. (Higgason) McCandless. Chastain Higgason died at age 90 years old on October 21, 1944 in Richmond, and was buried in October 1944 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery.

  • Introduction

    In 1860, he resided in the household of his grandmother Nancy Childress in Upper Revenue District, Hanover, VA. The same place in 1870. He married about 1877 to Pauline Thompson Hartz (1850-1926) and in 1889-90 resided in Richmond, VA. By 1900, He was enumerated in Brookland, Henrico, VA. His daughter Angie May married in 1904 to Walter Lewis Ford. In 1910, he still resided at Brookland, Henrico, VA, and in 1911, the City Directory lists him in Richmond with an occupation of a florist. In 1920, he resided in Richmond Lee Ward, Richmond, VA. In 1930, he resided at Brookland, Henrico, VA and was widowed. He was in the same location in 1935 and 1940. When he died in 1944 at Richmond, Henrico, VA, his sister Angie M. Ford was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery in Brook Hill, Henrico, VA. Cause of death: arteriosclerosis and gangrene of the left leg.
