Christina Rycroft of Nort Australia was born in 1887 in Nort to Joseph Rycroft and Annie Bentle Rycroft. She had siblings Louisa Rycroft, Violet Jane Rycroft, George Emmanuel Rycroft, Lilly Rycroft, John Robert Rycroft, Edith Alice Rycroft, Agnes Septima Rycroft, Elizabeth Rycroft, and Joseph George Rycroft. Christina Rycroft died at age 7 years old in 1894 in Northcote.

In 1887, in the year that Christina Rycroft was born, on January 20th, the US Senate gave the US Navy the right to lease Pearl Harbor as a naval base. Pearl Harbor is on the island of Oahu, a part of the Hawaiian Islands. The Navy was given direction to maintain "a coaling and repair station" at the harbor.

In 1890, by the time she was only 3 years old, on December 29th, the Wounded Knee Massacre occurred in South Dakota on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation . The U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment said that they rode into the Lakota camp "trying to disarm" the inhabitants. One person, Black Coyote - who was deaf - held onto his rifle, saying that he paid a lot of money for it. Shots rang out and by the end at least 153 Lakota Sioux - some estimates say 300 - and 25 troops had died. The site of the massacre is a National Historic Landmark.
