1923 Wedding Announcement
Roxboro, Sept. 8 - Of wide spread interest in North Carolina is the announcement of the engagement of Miss Christine Walker, of Roxboro, and Elwood Weatherly, of Elizabeth City. The wedding will take place in November. Miss Walker is the daughter of J. T. Walker, of Roxboro, and is known throughout the state. She graduated from Greensboro college in 1922 and is a young lady possessed with unusual charm and personality. Mr. Weatherly attended Trinity college and is now a prominent young business man of Elizabeth City.
The following is an account of the announcement party:
Miss Mae Willson entertained on Friday morning at her home on South Main street at a beautiful announcement party in honor of Miss Christine Walker whose engagement to Elwood Weatherly was announced. Six tables were arranged for Boston rook, the entire floor being thrown together for the occasion and being beautifully decorated with garden flowers. The color scheme was yellow and white. The guests found their places by little tally cards with brides and wedding bells.
After playing many interesting games, the hostess served a delightful ice course with salted nuts. Each guest received as a favor a dainty little yellow cup suspended from a little bell with the announcement "Christine Walker-Elwood Weatherly-November." The honoree was presented with a beautiful gift for her hope chest.
Those present were Misses Annie Walker, Annie Burch, Helen Hurley, Clara Harris, Mary Lee Crowell, Lillian and Bess Sample, Elizabeth Noell, Helen White, Bertha and Annie Clayton, Louise Thompson, Isabel and Marion deVlaming, Esther Thompson, Louise Stalvey, Laura Newton, Mesdames H.W. Newell and Frank Willson.
