He was married to Lavada Brown and together they had children Emma Fay, Mack Shelly, Herman Douglas, Barbara, Clarence Martin Jr, Johhny, Larry Dean, Freddie Lee, Dorothy Ann, Joseph Walden, Johnnie Mae, and Ethel Marie. He was also in a relationship with Genelle.
