Clarice May (Rerden) King was born on June 11, 1910 to Elizabeth Mary Ellen Opie and Oscar Arthur Rerden, and had siblings Florence Hilda Rerden, Charles William Ernest Rerdon, Nellie Beatrice Rerden, Lillian Myra Rerden, and Mavis Jean Rerden. Clarice King died at age 93 years old on May 17, 2004.

In 1910, in the year that Clarice May (Rerden) was born, the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated. U.S. publisher W.D. Boyce was visiting England when he became lost in the London fog. An unknown Boy Scout helped him find his way out, declining a tip (he said that he was a Boy Scout and was doing his good deed for the day). Boyce was so impressed that he incorporated the Boy Scouts of America when he returned home. Its purpose was "to teach boys patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values."

In 1924, when she was only 14 years old, on January 21st, Vladimir Lenin, a leader of the Russian Revolution and the first leader of the Soviet Union died. He had survived two assassination attempts but had subsequent physical problems, suffering 3 strokes. He was in such great pain, it is said that he asked Stalin to poison him. The circumstances of his death are still disputed. He did oppose Stalin as the next leader - nonetheless, Stalin won a power struggle and ruled as a Soviet dictator until his death in 1953.
