He married Alice A. (Chance) Mcgallion on February 14, 1970 in Fred, Tyler County and they later divorced on October 23, 1970 in Silsbee, Hardin County. He would also marry Velinda J. (Eason) Mcgallion on August 4, 1972 in Silsbee, Hardin County. They had a child Clifton Dewayne McGallion Jr..

He went on to chair a committee that investigated not only the State Department but also the administration of President Harry S. Truman, the Voice of America, and the U.S. Army for communist spies - until he was condemned by the U.S. Senate in 1954.
