He was married twice and had two children with his first wife: Guy Thomas Finley and Helen, and three children with Johnnie Ann Williams: Clinton Bill - father of Steven Wayne Finley (2-29-1972) and John"Buzz", LeeAnn.

    Clinton Thomas Finley was born to Guy Thomas Finley (1895 - 1974) and Florence Edna Smith (1887 - 1958). His mother was born in Oklahoma. He had four sisters: Velma, Anetta, Minnie, and Donna. Clinton Finley first married Helen Maxine Wood (1926 - 1996) on August 2, 1942 in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. They had two children: a daughter, Helen Faye and a son, Guy Thomas. Clinton then married Johnnie Ann Williams on August 8, 1950 in Grayson County, Texas. They had two sons: Clinton Bill and John Carl Finley. On his 1942 World War II draft card, Clinton was described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and as weighing 152 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. He also had a tattoo on his upper left arm.

In 1920, in the year that Clinton Thomas Finley was born, speakeasies replaced saloons as the center of social activity. After the 18th Amendment was ratified and selling alcohol became illegal, saloons closed and speakeasies took their place. Speakeasies, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, were "so called because of the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or when inside it, so as not to alert the police or neighbors". There were a lot of them and they were very popular. And where saloons often prohibited women, they were encouraged at speakeasies because of the added profits.

In 1937, by the time he was 17 years old, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
