Darwin Curry
I have an old studio photograph of Dana CURRY (or Hugh CURRY which is then crossed out) which was taken at the Shipler & Co. Studio in Warsaw, NY. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890’s with Dana likely in his 20’s at the time. A note on the back says, “they lived in Warsaw, were sons of Hugh CURRY, uncles of James S. CURRY”. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Darwin “Dana” W. CURRY and have gathered the following information regarding Dana and his family:
Darwin “Dana” W. CURRY was b. Mar 1869 in Warsaw, NY to parents Hugh CURRY or CURRIE (1832-1897) and Martha “Mattie” HUTCHINSON (1831-1911) who were married in Berlin, WI on 22 Aug 1858. Dana was one of 11 children born to this couple including David R.; Annie; John; Agnes Jane; Hugh W.; Dana; John James “Jenks” or “Jinks”; Martha Rigena or Hughena; Thomas Alexander; William “Willie” Clarence; and Ina CURRY or CURRIE, all born between 1859 and 1876.
Dana attended the Genesee Normal School and became a schoolteacher. Dana died 8 Oct 1909 and is buried in the Warsaw Cemetery in Warsaw, NY. His obituary lists survivors including sisters, Mrs. Ella CONRAD and Elizabeth CURRY of Warsaw, NY; and Mrs. Ina STREAMER of Elmira, NY; and brother Hugh CURRY of Warsaw, NY.
When his father Hugh CURRY died in 1897 his obituary indicated that he was born 1 Jan 1832 in County Antrim, Ireland, one of eight children with one brother surviving him, James CURRY of Covington, NY. Hugh immigrated to the United States in 1851. His surviving children were identified as Mrs. Ellice P. CONRADE, Elizabeth J. CURRY, William Hugh CURRY, Darwin W. CURRY, Sarah Ina CURRY, and his wife all of Warsaw, NY. He is also buried in the Warsaw Cemetery in Warsaw.
I am hoping to get this photograph back to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.
Thanks,
Shelley
