David Hunter Searle 1856 - 1946

David Hunter Searle was born in 1856 in Collingwood, Yarra City County, VIC Australia to Edward Searle and Julia Lydia Rakestraw ( Searle ( Hunter, and had siblings Henry Edward Searle, Annie Louise Rossiter ( Searle, and Helen Searle. He married Julia Naomi Searle ( Grant, and had children Allan Grant Searle, Dorothy Harris, and Ruby Edmiston. David Searle died at age 89 years old in July 1946 in Maldon, Mount Alexander Shire County.

In 1856, in the year that David Hunter Searle was born, on February 18th, The American Party, also called the "Know-Nothings" because they were an anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant movement, assembled in Philadelphia to nominate their first Presidential candidate, former President Millard Fillmore. The party sought to keep the "purity" of elections by blocking "impure" foreigners.

Herman Hollerith's "tabulating machine" used punch cards to more quickly compute census information, taking the time to get census results from 8 years in 1880 to 6 years for the 1890 census.
