David Lee Lay was born on January 28, 1947 to Virgil Lay and Barbara Jo (Wigfield) Lay, and had siblings Diana Lay Johnston and Patricia (Lay) Speedy. He married Julia Ann (Raven) Lay, and had children David Lee (Lay,) Jr and Christine (Lay) Smith. David Lay died at age 45 years old on December 2, 1992, and was buried at Barrancas National Cemetery
