He married Julia Ann (Raven) Lay, and had children David Lee (Lay,) Jr and Christine (Lay) Smith. David Lay died at age 45 years old on December 2, 1992, and was buried at Barrancas National Cemetery Section 38 Site 372 Naval Air Station, 1 Cemetery Road, in Pensacola, Fl.
