David Thulborn 1866 - 1936

David Thulborn of Warrnambool, VIC Australia was born in 1866 in Mortlake, Moyne Shire County to Thomas Thulborn and Margaret Oneill Thulborn. He had a brother John Thulborn. He married Mary Louisa "Tot" (Johnstone) Thulborn in 1897, and had children Lily Louisa Isabel Thulborn, Jessie Maude Thulborn, Margaret Frances Irene Thulborn, Daisy Victoria Thulborn, Leslie David McGregor Thulborn, Percival "Percy" Keith Thulborn, and Colin Thulborn. David Thulborn died at age 69 years old on October 13, 1936 in Warrnambool.

In 1866, in the year that David Thulborn was born, on April 10th, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - the ASPCA - was created. New Yorker Henry Bergh was the first President of the Society and the leader in its creation. He later formed the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

In 1903, he was 37 years old when the Harley-Davidson Motor Company was begun by two childhood friends, William Harley and Arthur Davidson - with help from Arthur's brother, Walter. Their first prototype - a "motor-bicycle" - couldn't climb hills without also pedaling, so they went back to the drawing board, and in 1904 their new version came in 4th in a race. Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company were the only two major motorcycle companies to survive the Great Depression.
