    Demarshell Nicol Taper was born on September 23, 1974. A native of Mississippi, Demarshell had lived in Birmingham, Alabama for about two years prior to her murder. Demarshell's murder was featured on the tv show "The First 48". She was shot in the head and left lying face up on the concrete in a Birmingham park, and in a February 16 2009 news article identified as a Mississippi native who had lived in Birmingham AL for about 2 years. The victim and suspect were reportedly having an affair. Lamar was found guilty, and sentenced to 20 years.

A 25-year-old Birmingham man has been charged with murder after being arrested Saturday in the shooting death of 34-year-old Demarshell Taper. The Mississippi native was shot Friday afternoon at Arthur Shores Park in the Druid Hills neighborhood.

Police arrested Carey Lamar Lee after he was interviewed by detectives on Saturday afternoon. Lee and Taper "knew each other socially," according to police.

Sgt. Sam Noblitt said a murder warrant was issued today. Lee was booked into the Jefferson County Jail shortly after 7:30 Monday night on $75,000 bond, according to the jail booking log. Taper was found shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday in the park at 1916 13th Ave. North in the Druid Hills neighborhood. Witnesses reported hearing as many as four shots.

Taper, who had lived in Birmingham for about two years, was shot in the head and left lying face up on the concrete. Taper was the city's 10th homicide victim this year.

Man arrested in Birmingham park slaying Feb 16, 2009
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Police have arrested a man in the shooting death of a woman in a Birmingham city park.

Birmingham police Sgt. Sam Noblitt says the suspect has not been charged, but a warrant was being prepared. His name was not released.

Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Demarshell Taper, a Mississippi native who had lived in Birmingham for about two years.
