  • Introduction

    Dilshad Akhtar was a famous Punjab singer who also worked as a playback singer in many Punjab films. After he was shot by a police officer at a wedding celebration (see below for news account), his sister Manpreet was persuaded to become a public singer, keeping up the tradition of saving Punjab folksongs. His cousin Sandeep was also a well known singer. Famous Punjabi Singer, Dilshad Akhtar, is shot dead by senior Punjab police officer. Dilshad was giving his performance on police officer's son's marriage when bridegroom's father, a DSP or SSP, shot him because Dilshad refused his request for a song - he refused because the song belonged to another singer.
