    Dominique was an actress, most notable for her role in the 1982 film “Poltergeist”, where she played Dana Freeling, the oldest daughter of the Freeling family.

  • Personal Life & Family

    In 1981, during the peak of her career, Dominique Dunne met John Thomas Sweeney (now known as John Patrick Maura) at a party. They began dating and swiftly moved into a rented home in West Hollywood together. Unfortunately, John Sweeney soon showed his true colors and grew abusive. Sweeney would become jealous when Dominique encountered other men, even co-stars. One evening, he became so enraged during an argument that he strangled Dunne. Another altercation left her with bruises and torn out hair. Dominique eventually gained the courage to dump Sweeney. However, on October 30, 1982, Dominique’s estranged ex-boyfriend approached their once shared home. He insisted that they speak, to which Dunne agreed. He wanted her to take him back, but she refused, and a verbal argument ensued. In a rage, John Sweeney once again strangled Dominique, this time nearly to death, and she never regained consciousness. Six days later, her family removed her from life support at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Wow...I never knew she was murdered. Of course I was very aware of her because of the Poltergeist film. Thank you for sharing ML!
