He had siblings Charles Henry McNier Jr (1924-1924), William Howard McNier (1925-1994), Florence McNier (1927-1999), Dorothy M McNier (1929-2018), and Betty A McNier (1933-2010). He lived in Sunbury, Northumberland, Pennsylvania and on May 10, 1954 he married Phyllis Mae Bachman (1934–2007). The couple had 7 children together including a son, Randy Joe McNeir (1965-1992). The family was living in McClure, Snyder, Pennsylvania, USA. Donald served in the Army during the Korean War.
