Donald John McNier was born on February 8, 1926. He enlisted in the military on November 30, 1945, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He joined the Corps of Military Police as a Private First Class in the Regular Army. His military serial number was 16075621, and his terms of enlistment were for the Hawaiian Department. At the time of his enlistment, he was just 19 years old. After enlisting, Donald went through basic training before being assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the Special Troops, Seine Section, TSFET. The Seine Section was a unit responsible for the security of the TSFET, which was the Theater Signal Field Army. As a member of the Corps of Military Police, Donald was tasked with maintaining discipline and enforcing military laws and regulations. He likely had many different duties, including providing security for bases and installations, conducting patrols, and working with local law enforcement agencies. Donald served in the military for nearly eight years, until his discharge on June 8, 1950. During this time, he rose to the rank of Private First Class, and he was a dedicated and disciplined soldier throughout his military career. After his military service, Donald returned to civilian life. He eventually passed away on April 9, 1968, and he was buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.

Donald James McNier was born on February 4, 1931 in Sunbury, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, USA to parents Charles Henry McNier Sr (1897-1973) and Ethel Mae Whiteleather (1897-1966). He had siblings Charles Henry McNier Jr (1924-1924), William Howard McNier (1925-1994), Florence McNier (1927-1999), Dorothy M McNier (1929-2018), and Betty A McNier (1933-2010). He lived in Sunbury, Northumberland, Pennsylvania and on May 10, 1954 he married Phyllis Mae Bachman (1934–2007). The couple had 7 children together including a son, Randy Joe McNeir (1965-1992). The family was living in McClure, Snyder, Pennsylvania, USA. Donald served in the Army during the Korean War.
