He married Margaret Mary Williams on December 28, 1963 in Garden City, Nassau County and they later divorced in 1977 in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey. They had children Carolyn Hannah Yost, Cynthia Anne Williams, and Lauren Marie Fosbenner. He would also marry Jane Victoria Williams in 1979 in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and they were married until Douglas' death on February 18, 2024 in Lewisburg, Union County. They had children David Vreeland Evans and Jane Victoria Murchison.
