He would have undergone extensive military training, including specialized training in aviation and navigation. Unfortunately, Douglas did not survive the war and he passed away on October 28, 1942 at only 23 years old. He is buried at Port Moresby Memorial Panel 9., in Port Moresby, National Capital District County Papua New Guinea.
