She had siblings Emily Victoria (Morcombe) Lugton, Alice Mary (Morcombe) Reynolds, Joseph Elijah Morcombe, Edward Wright Mordan, Edward Bodille Morcombe, Richard Palmer Morcombe, Bertha Ellen Morcombe, and William Daniel Morcombe. Edith Lewis married William Henry Lewis in 1896, and died at age 66 years old on October 31, 1931 in Fitzroy.

In 1865, in the year that Edith Rosetta Morcombe was born, on April 14th, President Abraham Lincoln was shot while attending a comedy at Ford's Theatre - Our American Cousin - in Washington, D.C. Actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth shot him 4 days after Lee had surrendered. The President died the next day. At almost the same time that Lincoln was shot, US Secretary of State William H. Seward and his family were attacked at home by another conspirator and Confederate sympathizer.

On December 10th, the war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty gave the U.S. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam - for $20 million - and, temporarily, Cuba.
