Edward James Kirwan of Millbrae, San Mateo County, CA was born on May 20, 1907 to Pierce "The Duke" Kirwan and Kitty (Power) Kirwan. He had siblings Nicholas Pierce Kirwan and Mary Kirwan Mundie. Edward was baptized in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County. He married Elizabeth Maas Kirwan, and had a child Dr. Charles Maas. Edward Kirwan died at age 89 years old on August 1, 1996, and was buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery Section C-1 Site 478 32053 West Mccabe Road, in Santa Nella.

    Ed's parents and grandparents were from Ireland. His parents emigrated to San Francisco separately, and met and married there. They lost their home and business tragically in the Great Quake of 1906 shortly before he was born. The family moved in with his Uncle and Aunt on losing their home to the dynamite lines, established to stop the Great Fire of the quake, and subsequently relocated to Long Beach, CA when the Uncle retired from the SFPD.
