April 18, 1906 Kitty survives The Great Quake
My Great Grandmother survived The Great Quake and Fire in 1906. It is the 118th Anniversary today. With her husband, Pierce, and two small children Nick( 3) and Mary(6), the Kirwan Family lost their South of Market business to the quake, and then their home to the dynamite lines, created to stop The Great Fire. Unfortunately, the fire was not stopped. The family was given 15 minutes in their beautiful home before evacuating it and moving to a tent in Golden Gate Park.
