He married Lucy (Stratfull) Hearn, and they had children John Frederick Hearn, Mary (Hearn) Louttit, Martha Hearn, Catherine Hearn, Edward Eli Hearn, Robert Eli Hearn, George Elijah Hearn, Lucy Alicia (Hearn) Giblin, Sarah Eliza (Hearn) Branston, and Samuel Hearn. Eli Hearn died at age 65 years old on August 4, 1894 in Rokewood Junction, VIC Australia.

    Mr. Eli Hearn, a very old and respected resident of Rokewood Junction, died on the 4th of August at an advanced age. Deceased arrived in the colony in 1849 and at once started business in Geelong, but catching the gold fever, gave up trade, and for a while experienced the many vicissitudes of a diggers life on the goldfields. Finally settling at Rokewood Junction, where he resided till his death, which resulted from syncope.A large gathering, ( testifying to the respect in which he was held by the people of the district ) followed his remains to their last resting place in the Rokewood Cemetery. The Rev. R. A. Whyte ( Church of England ) officiated at the house and the grave. Deceased leaves a widow and a large family ( all grown up ) one of the latter being Mrs. B. T. Anning of this city.
