Eliza Jane Jane (Stanning) Harrison of Ballarat Australia was born in 1857 in Ballarat, City of Ballarat County, VIC to Thomas Stanning and Lavinia Jane Chenhall Stanning. She had siblings John Stanning, Thomas Stanning, and Mary Ann Lavinia (Stanning) Randall. She married James Harrison in 1873, and had children Emma Jane Harrison, James Thomas Harrison, Maud (Harrison) Kimpton, Flaurence May Harrison, and Florence May Rackstraw. Eliza Jane Harrison died at age 76 years old in 1933 in Flemington.

In 1857, in the year that Eliza Jane (Stanning) Harrison was born, on March 6th, the US Supreme Court ruled that Blacks were not citizens and that slaves couldn't sue for freedom. The case was known as Dred Scott v. Sandford. It further divided the country and added to the forces that created the Civil War. It wasn't overturned until the 14th Amendment became law in 1868.

In 1892, at the age of 35 years old, Eliza Jane was alive when on August 4th, the father and stepmother of Lizzie Borden were found murdered. Lizzie was accused of the crime and on June 20th of the next year, she was acquitted of murder by a jury. But she was never acquitted in the public mind.
