  • Introduction

    Elizabeth, (Liz) Collins met Frank Collins in Grand Island, NE in 8/1985 while he was performing at the Conestoga Mall. He was building a giant dragon out of balloons in the center of the mall and asked Liz to help him. She told him to come eat at the pizza restaurant where she worked when he was finished and he did. They spent time together and married in Grand Island at the Justice of the Peace on 5/21/1986. They traveled throughout the western U.S. and 3 Provinces of Canada for 5 yrs. They lived in Aberdeen and Port Angeles. He got I’ll and couldn’t work, so Liz went to work as a Caregiver to help him and support them during this time. He died in the Seattle V.A. Hospital 7/6/2001 while Liz was working. Liz visited him on the 4th and spent the day holding hands, eating hamburgers, and watching a Godfather movie. She called him once she got back home and he was watching the fireworks out of his window in the Hospital with his Nurses and Liz was watching it on TV. He was cremated and his ashes were put in the Strait of Juan De Fuca. He had a son, Billy, from a previous marriage to Grace, and Billy knows about his Father Frank (Windy of Windy’s World, Master of Balloon Creations) and what he accomplished in his lifetime. Frank left Grace and his son to persue his career. Grace remarried and Billy lives in Pennsylvania now. Grace died.

The U.S. claimed that the U-2 was a "weather plane" but Powers was convicted in the Soviet Union of espionage. He was released in 1962 after 1 year, 9 months and 10 days in prison.
