Elmer 'Crip' Hill, WI
Elmer Elsworth Hill, Son of William Henry & Joann "Eliza" (Payne) Hill, was born February 11, 1872 in Wisconsin. Around 1900, he married Effie A. Mindham (1881-c.1940)at North Clayton, Crawford County, WI. They had 4 children: Robert Sr., Violet, Eliza & Minnie. In the October 22, 1908 issue of the Kickapoo Scout weekly newspaper, Mrs. Elmer Hill of Barnum was noted as seeking legal separation from an abusive husband. Ephie went on to marry a Mr. Sanders and had 3 more children: Alzada (Sanders) Zajicek, Sarah (Sanders) Finley Williams, & Perry Sanders.

On June 28, 1913, Elmer remarried in Soldiers Grove, WI to Mabel Rafferty (b.About 1875). They had no children together.

Crip received his nickname when a horse fell on him around age 45, crippling him, and forcing him to use crutches for the remainder of his life. He died March 13, 1945 in Soldiers Grove, WI and is believed to be buried at Felton Cemetery.
