Elsie Irene (Rundell) Ridley was born in 1907 to Hodgson Brown Rundell and Susan (Ah Yet) Rundell, and had siblings Rose Elizabeth (Rundell) Vizard, William Henry Rundell, Horace Charles Rundell, Lucy Louisa (Rundell) Jamieson, and Mary (Rundell) Brogmus. She married Joseph Donald Ridley, and had children Desmond Ridley and Dorothy Ridley. Elsie Ridley died at age 28 years old on January 24, 1936 in Melbourne, VIC Australia, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Fawkner, Moreland City County.

RIDLEY ( nee Rundell). - Elsie Irene, loving daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rundell, loving sister of Mrs. Vizard, Mrs. Jamieson, Mrs. Brogmus, Chris, Matt, Charlie ( deceased), and Willie ( deceased ). - At rest.

In 1907, in the year that Elsie Irene (Rundell) Ridley was born, the Monongah coal mining disaster occurred on December 6th, happening at the Fairmont Coal Company’s No. 6 and No. 8 mines.. Over 361 miners were killed. Because there was no breathing apparatus at the time to help rescuers, recovery efforts were greatly hampered. It is considered the worst mining disaster in American history and led to government oversight in mining practices.
