Emily Jane (Strugnell) Brown of Melbourne, VIC Australia was born in 1889 in Raywood to Robert Strugnell and Emily Cole Strugnell. She had siblings George William Strugnell, Alfred Strugnell, Caroline Strugnell, John Strugnell, and Robert Strugnell. She married Thomas Gardiner Brown in 1909, and had children Archibald Stanley Strugnell, Emily Jane Brown, Jessie Isabell Brown, Fisher Arthur Brown, and Estelle Brown. Emily Brown died at age 65 years old in 1954 in Melbourne.

North and South Dakota became the 39th and 40th states on November 2nd, Montana became the 41st state on November 8th, and Washington became the 42nd state on November 11th.

In 1890, at the age of merely 1 year old, Emily was alive when on December 29th, the Wounded Knee Massacre occurred in South Dakota on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation . The U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment said that they rode into the Lakota camp "trying to disarm" the inhabitants. One person, Black Coyote - who was deaf - held onto his rifle, saying that he paid a lot of money for it. Shots rang out and by the end at least 153 Lakota Sioux - some estimates say 300 - and 25 troops had died. The site of the massacre is a National Historic Landmark.
