Emma Christman of Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin was born on August 18, 1874 in Chicago Heights, Cook County, Illinois United States. Emma was baptized on April 6, 1875 at St. Mary Church in Kenosha, Kenosha County, WI. Emma Christman died at age 94 years old in February 1969, and was buried at Saint George Cemetery in Kenosha.

  • Introduction

    Emma Margaret Berry's parents were Andreas Sjuelsen Berg, sometimes Berry, (1838 - 1907. born in Norway, and her mother was Marie Oleson (or Olsdtr) (1835 - 1879), also born in Norway. She had siblings Mathilda, Syvert Andersen "Charles", Mary Frances, and Olaf Sjuelsen Berg. When Emma was 5, she and sister Mary were living with Dad in Pleasant Pride, Wisconsin. Dad reported that he was married bu there wasn't a wife in the household. Dad, now called Andrew, was a carpenter. Emma Berri married Joseph Henry Christman (1864 - 1919) on November 7, 1894 in Kenosha Wisconsin and they had children Barbara M. (Christman) Gain (1908 - 1948), Clarence, Lester, William Louis, Edward, Mathias, Elizabeth "Beth", and Helen Christman. By the time that Emma was 25, she was living with her husband Joseph, with mother-in-law Barbara in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Also in the household was Joseph's sister, Barbara, and a grandson, Clarence, age 2 (Emma and Joseph's son?). Joseph was a day laborer and daughter Barbara was a dressmaker. When Emma was 75, she was a widow and living with her son-in-law, Lyle Fontaine, and daughter, Helen, in Kenosha. She was keeping house for the family, which included her 6 grandchildren.
